April 10th meeting: Balancing our Special Interests

March 28, 2013

At this meeting we took part of the time to discuss balancing our special interests or passions with the rest of our life, work, family and  friends.

As smart focused people on the spectrum we delve into our special interests sometimes to the exclusion of those around us. How can we balance?

In conversation we need to speak in 4 to 10 sentences or less then pause for a response to be sure others are engaged. Be willing to be taken off topic.

In tasks we must to be able to stop and switch when others depend on us for other functions. This takes both scheduling and discipline. It is easiest for us to pursue our passions fulltime.

In the meeting we limited our conversations to 4 sentences and started the counting over when someone else spoke. Amazingly, we did not have to compete with each other. We listened and understood each other. It should be a model for all of our conversations henceforth!
