October 8th, 2014: Improvisation

October 9, 2014

Today we performed improvisation in the middle hour. Fred directed a choir of emotions in an “Emotion Orchestra” http://plays.about.com/od/actvities/qt/orchestra.htm . We had some others lead participate in other improv games such as “taxi cab” http://plays.about.com/od/improvgames/qt/taxicab.htm and “freeze” http://plays.about.com/od/actvities/a/freezetag.htm . It was a little frightening for a few, but entertaining for most. We agreed we should try to do 10 minutes of improv in each future session to play-out different emotions.

Second City Comedy Club the origin of Saturday Night Live Offers Improv classes for ASD adults and teenagers (http://www.secondcity.com/training/chicago/coursecatalog/395/) to teach skills of accessing emotions and storytelling. They state “Improvisation is a great tool to work through many types of barriers which stand in the way of creativity and socialization.”
